EAST L.A. INTERCHANGE

EAST L.A. INTERCHANGE

While many communities in the United States are struggling with issues of multiculturalism and diversity, Boyle Heights, the oldest neighborhood in East Los Angeles, has a 40-year history as a successful multiethnic community. How did its residents accomplish this feat in the face of poverty and discrimination from outside forces? And what can we learn from the people who were part of this community during its multiethnic heyday? At this critical juncture in our society, East LA Interchange poses the question: is our demographically multicultural nation ready to become a truly multicultural society?
